Good to know.
Answers to common questions about equipment hire, delivery and requesting a quote.
We deliver, set up and collect across Guernsey. Tell us your venue, access details and preferred timings. We will confirm the delivery, set-up and collection arrangements in your quote.
No. Sending an enquiry does not reserve equipment, confirm a booking or take payment. We will review your requested items and dates, then confirm availability and provide a quote.
Delivery, positioning and set-up can be arranged. Include your requirements, venue access and any power needs in your enquiry so we can agree the scope before the booking is final.
Choose your equipment, add the quantities to your hire list and complete the enquiry form with your dates, venue and contact details. We will confirm availability and provide a quote.
The booking deposit is 10% of the total hire charge, due once you have accepted the quote. The balance is due no later than 24 hours before your hire starts. We also take one refundable security deposit per booking, shown in your quote.
At least 3 working days. For hires of more than 60 days, please contact us.
You pay the reasonable cost of repair, cleaning or replacement, never more than our loss. Normal wear and tear is not charged.
No. Guernsey events only.
More than 10 days before delivery, normally yes, less costs we have already incurred. Within 10 days, we may charge our reasonable loss on items already prepared for you.
A forecast alone does not cancel the hire free of charge: the normal cancellation terms apply. If bad weather is expected, we will move your date where we can.
Where an item's page lists a delivery or collection charge, it applies to that item. If you hire several items, your quote states clearly whether delivery is charged once or per item.

OWL Hire: terms for equipment hire
Version: 11 October 2026
Who we are: Oakwood-Lock Limited, trading as OWL Events (OWL Hire), 54 Lower Pollet, St Peter Port, Guernsey. Contact: info@guernseytogether.co.uk, 07839 214317.
Where we hire: for events in Guernsey only. We do not deliver to the UK.
In these terms "we", "us" and "our" mean OWL Hire, and "you" means the person or organisation named in your quote.
1. Enquiries, quotes and booking
1.1 An enquiry through our website reserves nothing. We check stock for your dates and reply with a written quote as soon as we can.
1.2 Your booking is confirmed when you accept the quote and pay the booking deposit in section 3.
1.3 Your booking is made up of the quote, any written changes we agree, and these terms. If your quote says something different, the quote applies.
2. Charges
2.1 The hire charge for each item, and any delivery, set-up and collection charge, is shown in your quote. Where an item's page lists a charge, it applies to that item; otherwise we confirm it in your quote.
2.2 If you hire several items, your quote states clearly whether delivery is charged once or per item.
2.3 We will not add a charge that is not in the quote or in these terms without agreeing it with you first.
3. Payment
3.1 Booking deposit: 10% of the total hire charge is due once you have accepted the quote, to secure your booking.
3.2 Balance: the rest of the hire charge is due no later than 24 hours before your hire starts.
3.3 A separate refundable security deposit is also taken, shown in your quote (section 7).
4. Hire period, delivery and collection
4.1 The hire period starts when the item is delivered or collected by you, and ends when it is returned to or collected by us.
4.2 We agree delivery and collection times with you. Please tell us about stairs, narrow or restricted access, parking and vehicle limits before delivery.
4.3 Someone must be available to receive and check the items. Please check them on delivery and tell us at once about any existing damage.
4.4 If you prevent an agreed collection, keep an item longer than agreed, or ask for the hire to be extended, a reasonable extra charge may apply. It will not be more than the extra cost or loss we suffer.
4.5 We need at least 3 working days' notice for delivery. For hires of more than 60 days, please contact us to talk it through.
5. Looking after the equipment
5.1 Hired equipment stays our property at all times.
5.2 You must take reasonable care of it and protect it from theft, loss, vandalism, fire, flooding, avoidable weather damage and misuse.
5.3 You must not alter, repair, mark or sub-hire it, or move it from the agreed venue, without our written permission.
5.4 Use electrical and specialist equipment only as we instruct.
5.5 If we reasonably think conditions (including weather or ground) make use unsafe, we may refuse to set up or stop use until the risk has gone.
6. Loss, damage and cleaning
6.1 You may be charged if hired equipment is lost, stolen, damaged beyond fair wear, or returned much dirtier than normal use would cause.
6.2 The charge is the reasonable cost of repair, cleaning or replacement, taking account of the item's age and condition. It will not be more than our loss.
6.3 Please report any theft to us as soon as you can.
6.4 Paying for damage does not make the item yours unless we agree that in writing.
7. Security deposits
We take one refundable security deposit for each booking, covering all the items on it. The amount is stated in your quote. We normally refund it within seven calendar days after the items are returned and checked, less any reasonable charge under section 6.
8. Changes and cancellation by you
8.1 Adding items depends on availability.
8.2 If you reduce or cancel hire items more than 10 calendar days before delivery, we will normally agree, less any costs we have already incurred.
8.3 Within 10 days, if the items have already been reserved, prepared or transported for you, we may charge our reasonable resulting loss. We will not charge more than that loss, or more than the hire charges for those items.
8.4 Booking deposit if you cancel: your 10% booking deposit may be applied towards our reasonable loss. It is not forfeited automatically just because you cancel. If our loss is less than the deposit, we refund the rest. If our loss is more, we may invoice the difference, up to the hire charges for the cancelled items and no more. (The security deposit in section 7 is a separate refundable deposit.)
9. If we cannot supply an item, or have to cancel
9.1 If an item becomes unavailable for a reason outside your control, we may offer a similar item.
9.2 If we cannot supply the item and you do not accept the substitute, we refund or credit what you paid for it.
9.3 If we cancel because of something we cannot reasonably control, such as severe weather, we refund what you paid for items we did not supply.
10. Weather
Outdoor equipment is not designed for every condition. You and the venue must take sensible steps to protect it, including from wind and heavy rain. A weather forecast on its own does not allow you to cancel without charge: the cancellation terms in section 8 apply. If bad weather is expected, we will move your date where we can.
11. Our responsibility
We are responsible for loss or damage that is a reasonably foreseeable result of our breach of contract or our negligence. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any legal right you have as a consumer.
12. Privacy, law and your rights
We use your details to deal with your hire, as set out in our privacy notice. These terms are governed by the law of Guernsey and the courts of Guernsey. If any part conflicts with a legal right you cannot give up, that right applies.
